Unique Selling Point
Through my years of Media Production within education, I have been able to develop my many skillsets. So, what makes me stand out from any other Media Producer?
My coursework is of a high quality. Even during Level 2 Media, my then-tutor compared it to being of Higher Education. In particular, I am great at Research and also Problem Solving. Ally my work is comprehensive, secure, accurate and accurately planned so that each production can run as smoothly as possible.
Another aspect that makes me unique is my level of cinematography combined with Visual Language, which comes down the why I began Media in the first place: the fascination towards connoting ideologies and the ability to tell stories which are meaningful and compelling. This extends to my editing, which I always aim to make as engaging and appealing as possible.
Lastly, I am also great at producing content specifically for Radio which has given me experience in unscripted Media Productions. My coursework has also given me experience in a documentary filmmaking to further refine my skills in developing unscripted media content.

MEDIA BACKGROUND
Introduction
I have always been captivated by the arts. From a young age, I vividly remember drawing from the age of five, then studying GCSE Photography at Secondary School.
Creative Media is the ultimate practice for storytelling and my fascination with Visual Storytelling continues to both evolve and develop. What fascinates me the most? The ideology of not just telling stories, but also connoting ideologies with even the simplest of cinematography, the way any cinematography can become an immersive and dynamic experience for its target audience.
I look forward to working in Media in the future and hope that you enjoy my Media Productions that are on this website.
Education
Bournemouth University:
Date Attended: September 2023 to Present
In September of 2023, I began studying at Bournemouth University - an educational institute which is both well-known and well respected within the media industry. I chose to study this course because of it being Bournemouth University's most practical, hands-on course (which fits with my personal desire to be hands on and practical, whilst learning through experience). Since enrolling on to my course, I have been dong weekly workshops, where I have been using Avid Media Composer to edit a mini documentary on our time at Bournemouth University so far. Alongside this, I camera operated and Risk Assessed the production of a short film called "Azrure|", which is based on the colour blue and consequently about Depression to reflect this.
Doing TV Production has also given me he privilege of having access to the university's adavanced, modern, and innotavie TV Studuos (within which, w are testing some new Pan / Tilt / Zoom lighting for the BBC!). It is this space consequently which is my favourite at Bournemouth University. I aways love being here and feel proud to be a TV student within a TV studio at Bournemouth University, because of it leading the industry and being even better than industry-standard.
Another memory of my time at university so far has been becoming involved with its student-led Media organization (consisting of around 4 outlets): Nerve Media. This has included radio presenting my radio show of "Matthew's Blast from the Past" on Thursday's from 19:00 to 20:00, and the occasional shoot with Nerve Photography when I am able to. A big key to this has been networking, and it has enabled me to stretch my skillsets to photography again whilst being around people with valuable and experienced insight.
Farnborough College of Technology:
Date Attended: September 2019 to June 2023
In Vocational Introduction to College, I learnt employability and life skills and achieved Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics upon re-sitting it. Impressively, I managed to go from Grade 3 GCSE English Language to Grade 8 upon re-sitting it in my second year at Farnborough College of Technology. This demonstrates how I had increased my awareness of English Language techniques and their meaning. I had also become an avid fan of Creative Writing as a hobby and still enjoy doing it to this day when able to do so!
My path towards Creative Media began at this college in 2020, where I studied Level 2 CTEC Extended Certificate in Media (which I was awarded a Distinction for). In Level 2 Media, I produced my own audiobook, film trailer and short film whilst beginning the year by studying Magazines and Target Audience. The short film I produced is about a girl who decides whether she should continue living after her recent bout of hardship. Meanwhile, the film trailer(called "Ella and The Dragon") is about a girl who is cheated on by her librarian boyfriend. The audiobook is a Fantasy-Adventure about an eight-year-old girl who defeats an evil dragon.
I then moved onto Level 3 Extended National Diploma in Creative Media Practice, a two year course equivalent to three A-Levels. In my first year, I produced a Skills Workshop Tutorial Series, several TV Advertisements, a short film and a music video alongside another short film for a Final Major Project. Since then, I have also produced a documentary on Homelessness, fitness stereotypes in magazines and have worked as part of a Production Team on a Talk Show / Studio Production called "Problems Podcast". During Level 3 Media, I also volunteered on other people's projects to gain experience and even produced a Promotional Video for Broadlands Group RDA several months into my time their after beginning my volunteering there in August 2021.
Samuel Cody Specialist Sports College:
I have a GCSE in Photography, were I used Canon EOS Cameras. Projects included creating an album cover, landscapes and portraiture. For my album cover, I used High-Key lighting for sharp contrast between light and dark, thus showing mystery to relate to the title of "Mystery Man".
Other GCSEs include Music, where I wrote and composed my own tune. Alongside this, I have three other GCSE's including GCSE English Literature and GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4.
Media-Related Work Experience and Volunteering
Nerve Media - Radio Presenter & Producer / Photographer
Dates: October 2023 to Present
Since enrolling onto BA (hons) Television Production at Bournemouth University in September 2023, I have become part of Nerve Media - a group of students who like to do extra media-related work outside of their studies and a band which emphasizes on being "led by students for students". This has involved (so far) involved Sports Photography and Portraits. I have enjoyed this aspect of Nerve because of it giving me the chance to explore a different side of Creative Media that I have not dealt with since Secondary School. This is also because I love photography, and looking at images with use their perspective or colours to look visually appealing, create depth and connote deeper meanings. Perhaps the hardest aspect of Nerve Photography has been in fast-paced sports games and sessions for SportsBU, because you have to act quickly whilst trying to gain a professional photograph simultaneously is harder than it looks! Nevertheless, Nerve Photography has been a fun, and thrilling experience!
Alongside this, I have also been part of Nerve Radio where I have continued "Matthew's Blast from the Past" (which I began at Farnborough College of Technology) by expanding on my show's format through better research and planning before broadcasting, having more interviewees, being more diverse within my music choices, recently producing pre-records, alongside discussing more news; social issues, and culture.
Before the end of this academic year, I would like to become more involved with Nerve TV and do more LinkedIn posts This is because my commitment to both BA (Hons) Television Production and Nerve Radio (alongside balancing my work and social life) have made it hard to include these assets in my life. Although I am part of Nerve's 'Script Clinic', my hope is that by becoming involved with Nerve TV's fiction episodes, I will have more to add onto my showreels for my time at Bournemouth University
FCOT Radio - Radio Presenter and Producer
Dates: March 2022 to June 2022 / October 2022 to May 2023
One of my favourite experiences from Farnborough College of Technology was working at FCOT Radio. Here, I used to air a weekly show (of two hours at peak periods during its zenith) called "Matthew's Blast from the Past", whereby I would play music from both the past and as time went by, I decided to eventually increase the amount of music from the present to make the show relevant and current for younger audiences.
Although I did have interviewees to start with, this feature faded away a few episodes into this show format because of when my show took place and other people wanting to focus their studies, and their lives rather than wanting to be on radio. Nevertheless, my experience at FCOT Radio taught the fundamental skills of Radio Presenting and gave a basic knowledge of the software, technology and equipment involved with broadcasting radio. It also gave me a show format which I was able to expand upon at Bournemouth University.
Researcher and Editor - Film Punks, Basingstoke, Hampshire
Dates: 7th February 2022 - 18th February 2022
I was one of only a few student who achieved two weeks of Work Experience as part of Level 3 Media at a time where Media Companies where not allowing this opportunity because of the recent Covid-19 pandemic.
I successfully edited the a range of Tutorial Videos for Diverse Abilities, learning how to add subtitles and stylize them to Diverse Abilities' requirements. During my time at Film Punks, I also learnt about advanced settings in Premiere Pro, such as Sequence Settings and applying Motion Graphics to make my videos engaging and cinematic.
I researched a range competitors and advertisements for Film Punks to share as part of the companies collection of what inspires their content. Alongside this, I wrote the rough draft of "Film Punks: Green Punks" which was edited into its final draft by my employers.
Working at Film Punks was really valuable as I learnt a variety of new and advanced editing skills, the whole team were very helpful towards my short film being produced at the time and my work was also praised and recognized - to the extent that I was the subject of an article called "Film Punks and Me".
Broadcast Assistant - Kane FM, Guildford, Surrey
Dates: 10th to 13th February 2020
At Kane FM, I developed my knowledge of radio by learning about how it is broadcast and the kit required for this aspect. I also practiced presenting into a live show on my last day of Work Experience and used computer software to compose my own tune This can be found in my "Audio Content" page and is called "Kane FM - Matthew Williams".
